A quickie project, I knew that no FBA would be required but I figured I was surprised to say that I didn't have to modify the pattern for my hips and bum since there was more then enough ease. I did make a couple modifications: I added a snap button at the collar because I liked the overlap seen in pattern's Model A. But the most elaborate change was at the sleeve. If you look at the pattern's envelope you see that the contrasting part of the sleeve is simply sewn onto the the fleece. I thought that looked sloppy, not to mention that it defeats the idea that you're supposed to think that your wearing a short sleeve fleece jacket over a long sleeve top. So I added 3/8" to the seams, folded the sleeve along the seam line to form a hem, then topstitched the hem onto the contrast portion together. I bit (that's borrow for you non urban speakers LOL) that fleece idea from Erica B's coat. 
PS: that's not dandruff on my hair, only flurries.

Petit projet rapide. Je savais qu'aucun ajustement pour poitrine forte n'aurait été nécessaire mais j'ai été surprise de me rendre qu'il y avait assez d'aisance dans l'ourlet pour qu'aucun ajustement n'y serait non plus nécessaire. J'y ai tout de même fait deux modifications. D'abord, j'ai rajouté un bouton pression à l'encolure pour simuler le look du col que l'on voit dans le modèle A du patron. Ensuite, je n'aimais pas la façon que la portion contrastante du manche était cousu sur le molleton, ça ne donnait pas assez l'illusion que l'on portait un veston à manches courtes sur des manches contrastantes et donc j'ai rajouté 1cm à la couture et replié la couture du manche comme un ourlet et l'ai surpiqué sur la manche contrastante. Quand au choix du motif, j'ai été influencé par le manteau d'Erica B. Et non ce ne sont pas des pellicules sur mes cheveux mais des mini flocons de neige.

Last September, I took my Mara shawl with me to Europe and and my mom threatened to just take it from me. I had already planned on knitting something for her for Christmas so I figured I'd just make one for her. But then Brooklyn Tweed came out with his pattern booklet and I figured that rather then repeat Mara, I'd make this one instead. The stripes are because I realized I was going to run out of the deeper Galway so I used a paler skein of Cascade 220, I couldn't find a better matter match, I alternated each colour at every repeat of the stitch patter.

En Septembre dernier, j'ai été en Europe avec mon châle Mara et ma mère a menacé de m'en soulager. J'avais déjà lui en faire un. Mais lorsque Brooklyn Tween a publié un livret de projets tricot, j'ai préféré faire celui-ci. Ayant réalisé que j'allais manquer de fil, j'ai utilisé un vert plus pâle car je n'ai pu trouvé une couleur identique. J'ai alterné les couleurs à chaque répétition du motif.

Couverture d''Inspiration Hudson Bay Inspired Blanket

I had chosen another pattern, my second choice at that point, to make a baby blanket for my sister who had her baby yesterday. But as soon as I saw this on Purl Soho's blog I knew I'd make this one. And once I started making the stripes I immediately regretted having to give it away LOL. I loved making this, garter stitch all the way making this an ideal pattern for TV watching. My choice of colours wasn't as bright as the original but that's because the LYS didn't have a bright red so even though I stayed with the traditional colours of a Hudson Bay blanket, I chose earthy versions of them. As usual the blue doesn't show up accuretly but even looking at the blanket itself you'd probably mistake it for a black. I chose an off white for the background. 

I accidentely made this with a US 8 sized needle and that may have led to the blanket being 5" wider then the finished size indicated. So to keep it in the same proportions as the original's measurements, I made the middle white section 4" longer. Other then that, no change has been made to the instructions given. But with it being larger it's more an Afghan now so my guess is she'll be using this herself. Because this is a crib blanket I made it with an acrylic/wool mix yarn to  make it's washing easier for my sister who now has two kids. In any case, I have enough of the coloured yarn to make another one for myself, in fact I have an extra skein of white since I only needed five for this blanket.

J'avais choisi un autre modèle, mon second choix à ce moment-là, pour faire une couverte de bébé pour ma soeur qui a accouché hier. Mais aussitôt que j'ai vu ce modèle-ci sur le blog de Purl Soho j'ai su que j'allais le faire. Et une fois que j'ai commencé à en faire les rayures, j'ai regretté ne pas pouvoir le garder. J'ai adoré faire cette couverte, le fait qu'il soit entièrement travaillé au point mousse en faisait le projet idéal à faire en regardant la télé. Étant donné que mon magasin de tricot n'avait pas un rouge vif, j'en ai donc choisi une version atténuée et ai choisé le ton des autres couleurs en conséquence. Même en réel, le bleu paraît noir. J'ai aussi choisi un blanc cassé pour l'a couleur d'arrière-plan.

Sans faire exprès, j'ai utilisé une aiguille de 5mm, ce qui a peut-être donné comme résultat que la couverte est plus large de 12.5 cm par rapport à l'original. Pour en garder les proportions, j'ai fait la bande blanche du milieu plus longue de 10 cm. Mais on ne plus vraiment l'appeller une couverte de bébé, c'est plutôt une jettée maintenant. J'ai choisi de travailler avec un fil fait de mélange acrylique et laine afin d'en faciliter l'entretien par ma soeur qui a maintenant duex enfants. Il m'en reste assez de fil de couleur pour me faire une autre couverte, il me reste aussi un écheveau dans le blanc vu que je n'en ai eu besoin que de cinq.

Sequined Headband/Bandeau À Paillette

So you waited at the very last minute to make your Christmas knitting. Well, I've have a quickie project for you. I made this headband after seeing a similar idea at the Mexx store, only they used a 1/4" sequined ribbon and it was knitted single stranded. I am currently working on another Christmas present so yes, this was a bit of active procrastination. I wear it over my locs to add an extra layer of warmth over my ears. I wore in our first cold snap this morning and believe me it works. Very 80s if I may say so. Since I have enough ribbon left I'll probably make another one, this time that would fit when I wear my hair up.

Yarn

1x 100-yard skeins of worsted weight yarn, split in two smaller balls plus scrap yarn in contrasting colour for a provisional cast on

Notions

1 pair of 5mm-US 8 needles plus a spare for the three needle bind off.

1 yard of sequined ribbon, ½" wide

1 cable hook (if you use them)

Yarn or tapestry needle

Sewing needle and thread to match the sequined ribbon

Optional :

Crochet or latch hook

Gauge 

3.5 sts per inch (with the yarn worked double threaded)

Abbreviations 

K: Knit

P: Purl

Sts : Stitches

C6B : Place the first three sts from the left needle on a cable hook and place at back, K the following three sts, place the reserved sts on the left needle and knit them. 

R: Row

Notes 

You can work in the sequined ribbon as you go along by trapping the ribbon in the cables as you make them or you can wait until the end and use a crochet or latch hook or a tapestry needle to pull it though the gaps created by the cable twist.

Also, the headband is started with a provisional cast on and finished with a three needle bind off. If you don't care for that method, you can do a regular cast on and bind off and then mattress stitch the top and bottom together.

Instructions

With the yarn worked double threaded and the scrap yarn, do a provisional cast on for 12 sts . Work R1 and R2 twice :

R1 : K12

R2 (wrong side) : K3, P6, K3

Then work one cable row : K3, C6B, K3.

Continue working rows 1 and 2 but make a cable row every twelve rows on the right side until the headband fits you snuggly around the head, ending with Row 2. Leave the sts on the needle.

With a second needle pick up the stitches from the provisional cast on, removing the scrap yarn. Make sure, that both needles point the same direction. Do a three needle bind off using the third needle. Weave in the tails.

If you chose to insert the ribbon after you finished knitting the headband, do so now, then cut the excess ribbon whille leaving a tail 1/2" passed the seam at each end (or, more simply, leaving an inch of ease). With the sewing needle and thread, sew the ends of the sequined ribbon together. With the sewing needle and thread, sew the ends of the ribbon together. You can also afix it to the headband like I did.

Vous avez besoin d'un cadeau de dernière mais pas beaucoup de temps pour le faire? Voici donc un petit projet rapde. J'ai fait ce bandeau après en avoir vu un chez Mexx ce weekend, la différence étant que le leur avait un ruban de 5 mm et était tricoté un fil à la fois donc pas très chaud. Bon en fait ceci est ma perte de temps sur un autre projet que j'ai a terminer pour Noël mais bon. Je le porte par dessus mes cheveux afain d'ajouter un couche de chaleur de plus sur mes oreilles. Très année 80 comme look. Vu qu'il me reste assez de ruban, je crois que je vais m'en faire un second qui me fera lorsque j'aurai les cheveux attachés.

Fil

1 balle de fil de laine de grosseur moyenne divisée en deux balles plus un bout de fil de couleur contrastante afin de faire un montage provisoire

Mercerie

1 m de ruban à paillette de 1.25mm

1  paire d'aiguille à tricoter de 5mm plus une troisième aiguille pour faire un rabat à trois aiguilles

1 aiguille à laine ou à tapisserie

1 crochet ou aiguille à torsade (si vous en utilisez pour raire des torsades)

1 aiguille à coudre et un fil de couleur allant avec le ruban

Optionel

1 aiguille à crochet ou crochet à tapisserie 

Échantillon

3.5 mailles par 2.5cm (les mailles étant faites à fil double)

Notes

Le bandeau est monté avec la technique de motage provisoire et fini avec un rabat à trois aiguilles. Cependant vous pouvez faire un montage et rabat ordinaire et assembler le bandeau en cousant le haut et bas ensemble.

Vous avez aussi le choix d'assembler le ruban avec le bandeau au fur et mesure en faisant les torsades ou en le faisant passer dans les trous créés par les tosades.

Instructions

Montez 12 mailles à double fil avec la technique de montage provisoire.  Ensuite, tout en travaillant à double fil,  faire les rangées 1 et 2 deux fois:

R1: Tranvaillez en mailles endroits

R2 (qui sera la rangée envers): 3 mailles endroit, 6 mailles envers, 3 mailles endroit

Maintenant, faites une rangée en torsade comme suit: 3 mailles endoit, faire une torsade à 6 mailles en croisant vers l'arrière, 3 mailles endroit. 

Continuez à travailler les rangées 1 et 2 tout en faisant une torsade aux douze rangées sur le côté endroit.

Continuez ainsi jusqu'à ce que le bandeau vous fasse de façon ajustée et en terminant avec une rangée envers. Laissez les mailles sur l'aiguille.

Avec une seconde aiguille, reprennez les mailles de la première rangée et enlevez le fil contrastant tout en s'assurant que l'aiguille pointe dans la même direction que celle du haut du bandeau. Avec une troisième aiguille, faire un rabat à trois aiguilles. Insérez les bouts de fils qui au travers des mailles.

Si vous avez fait le choix d'insérer le ruban après avoir tricoté le bandeau, faites le maintenant. Coupez l'excédent de ruban tout en laissant environ 1.25 cm de plus à chaque extrémité pour une aisance totale de 2.5 cm. Avec l'aiguille à coudre et le fil, cousez les deux extrémités du ruban ensemble. Si vous voulez, vous pouvez ensuite attacher les extrémités du ruban au bandeau.

Poppies/Coquelicots

 

A friend of mine saw me wearing the poppy I made last year and asked me make one for her. Then I made the one on the right for myself and felt that the one I made for her was lacking so I made another for her the one on the left.

Une amie m'a vue porter le coquelicot que j'avais fait l'an dernier et m'a demander de lui en faire un. Je me suis fait par la suite  la fleur à droite et ai trouvé que celui destiné à mon amie faisait piètre figure. Je lui ai donc fait la fleur à gauche.

Foulard Mexx Scarf

This is a knock off of a scarf I've seen in a store in Montreal. Fell in love with it this summer but it cost 65$ so I waited for a good sale to come along and sadly for my wallet is that it hasn't happened. So I DIYed for much less. Years ago I purchased the black woven fabric years ago and split in half lengthwise and made scarves out of each piece.  Using one of the scarves as the backing, I got the steel grey jersey fabric, cut it to be 4" from each long side and 6" from the top and bottom. I finished the edges using the rolled edge stitch from my overlock machine then I top stitched it to the backing. All of that done within a couple of hours for much less the store version. And let me tell you, it does keep my neck very warm.

Ceci est copie d'un foulard vu dans un magasin à Montréal. J'en suis tombée amoureuse cet été et ai attendu une vente intéressante mais elle n'est jamais arrivée. J'ai donc choisi de le faire moi-même. Il y a des années de ça j'ai acheté un tissu noir que j'ai coupé en deux dans le sens de la longueur et en avait fait deux foulards. J'en ai utilisé un pour faire l'endos et j'ai acheté ce tricot gris acier, l'ai coupé pour qu'il soit moins large de 10 cm des longs côté et 15 cm du haut et bas que le tissu de l'endos. Je l'ai fini en avec le point ourlé de ma surjeteuse et l'ai surpiqué sur l'endos. Tout ça en moins de deux heures et pour pas mal moins que la version en magasin. Et une chose est sûre, ça tient mon cou au chaud.

Bulky Cable Sock/Chaussette à Torsade en Grosse Laine

According to my Ravelry page I started this last January, probably with the intent to keep my feet warm in the coldest months of the year. I ignored it for months when I finally grabbed it last September to finish it, I ran out of yarn just as I was about to do the last O cable on the second sock. Since my LYS was closed I had to find another source and luckily, I have a new LYS and it carried it. I figured that before I picked up my needles again I'd better finish these.

They were worked from the toe up and finished with a twisted rib and sown bind off. The heals were short rowed. 

Selon my page Ravelry, j'ai commencé ces chaussettes en janvier dernier, probablement pour garder mes pieds au chaud durant les mois les plus froides de l'année. Je l'ai ignoré pendant des mois et ensuite les ai reprises en Septembre dernier pour les terminer mais j'ai manqué de fil au moment de terminer la dernière torsade en O sur la seconde chaussette. Vu que mon magasin de tricot fermé ses portes j'ai du en trouver une autre source de fil de laine et heureusement j'en ai trouvé un autre qui vendait ce dont j'avais besoin. Je me suis dit qu'avant de prendre mes aiguilles pour commencer mon prochain projet je me devais de terminer celui-ci.

Je les ai travaillées en commançant des orteils et en les terminant avec une côte torse et un rabat cousu.
